Ultra-low Temperature Freezers: How to Choose the Right One

Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers

Ultra-low temperature freezers are ultra-cold laboratories that operate at extremely low temperatures. With a temperature range of -45°C to -86°C, Yatherm Scientific offers ultra-low temperature freezers that are suitable for storing drugs, enzymes, chemicals, bacteria, and other samples.

Ultra-low temperature freezers are available in a variety of designs and sizes, depending on the amount of space required. The upright freezer and the chest freezer are the two most common types. ULT upright freezers provide quick and easy access to frequently used items, while ULT chest freezers are designed to store items that are less frequently used for long periods of time. Most laboratories use upright freezers to save space and make layouts more convenient.

Freezer storage volume at ultra-low temperatures

There is a wide range of internal storage capacities available for ultra-low temperature freezers, ranging from 200 litres to a maximum of 800 liters. In order to maintain the temperature as uniform as possible, it usually consists of shelves on the inside on which the research samples are placed and each shelf is enclosed by an internal door.

What is the operation of an ultra-low temperature freezer?

A freezer that operates at ultra-low temperatures may consist of one high-power compressor that is hermetically sealed or two cascade compressors.

Laboratory ULT freezer systems typically use air-cooled condensers. This type of battery is made up of tubular batteries (copper or copper-aluminum) arranged in a way that allows maximum heat transfer from the surface to the battery. An engine-driven fan circulates the cooling air, and capillary tubes are used to expand the refrigerant fluids.

The evaporation process is carried out by steel plate heat exchangers located inside the chamber, or by coils. As opposed to freezers with coils in the insulation cavity, the coil in the cabinet provides greater efficiency in heat exchange.

Uses of ultra-low temperature freezers

There are many applications in ultra-low temperature freezers...

Storage of biological and biotech materials in research universities, hospitals, blood banks, and forensic labs.

An evaluation of the ability of products and machinery to perform reliably at low temperatures, such as those found in the arctic.

Preserving textiles

Bacteria preservation
